Old-fashioned French lace, celebrity-style high-waisted jeans, glorious European scents – there's little not to like at cult boutique duckeggBLUE.
Based originally in Balmain, Sydney, the duckeggBLUE story expanded 6 months ago when it opened its second store on Transvaal Avenue, Double Bay. The challenge in the expansion, says owner Leanne Carter-Taylor, was to create a true 'destination' store. "My second store has captured the essence of our flagship store in Balmain, but with a few subtle tweaks to the original recipe to suit its new location," she says.
Those tweaks include a light-filled, wood-floored interior, vintage-inspired décor and hand-finished wallpaper by UK designer Louise Body. There's also a quirky combination of vintage medical and Edwardian wooden cabinets, 1930s claw-footed display units and dressmakers' benches in which to showcase the boutique's selection. And what selection is that? "duckeggBLUE stocks a covetable collection of beautiful clothes lovingly sourced from Paris to Dublin, New York to Sydney," says Carter-Taylor, who travels the world to handpick hot labels and showcase them exclusively. One of her recent additions: Irish cashmere queen Lucy Downes, who sells her Sphere One label exclusively in Australia through this store, while other brands heating up the racks include Carl Kapp, Filippa K, 18th Amendment, Tamara Henriques and Ginger & Smart.
Lovers of unique homewares won't be disappointed, either, with David Edmonds crockery, Cavallini & Co journals and Gianna Rose Atelier soaps all in store.
