Studio Bomba
The Essence: The newly relocated home for Studio Bombas design space and shop.
The Facts: Establishing their home base further down the Leederville end of Oxford Street, Studio Bomba have extended their wonderfully idiosyncratic approach to design to a brand new hybrid site that combines boutique, studio and café.
Filling the many nooks and crannies of their new space, the shop portion features wares by both national and international designers and artisans, as well as the on-site Bomba crew. Their stock showcases a unique brand of irreverence and tongue-in-cheek wittiness that draws together the diverse goods on sale, focusing on wares that are exemplars of good design that privilege eccentricity and fun over pretention. Some of the brilliant goods on offer include the adorable biscuit cushions by Scottish lass Nikki McWilliam and Mitchell and Dent paperwares by Angela Mitchell and Leah Dent, who coincidentally are the inspired duo behind Studio Bomba.
Pushing their original concept, the new space also features a miniature cafe that specialises in the sustenance required to fuel the design process: coffee and cake. And if that doesn’t aid in fostering a small community of likeminded individuals, the creative workshops, which are held in an adjacent room, certainly will. Offering classes in crafts as diverse as knitting, crocheting and home grooming, there is something that will undoubtedly tickle the fancy of the most discerning crafter. For those that prefer a more voyeuristic approach to design, the creators’ studios are prominently featured in the space so that patrons can bear witness to the creative process. With all these pleasurable distractions, people may never want to leave.
The Find: A plethora of quirky papergoods, ceramics and homewares made by the talented, creative folk who share Bomba’s studio space.
