ABOUT

OUR HISTORY

Print

Urban Walkabout was established in 2006 when founder Victoria Moxey saw the need for visual, carefully curated and easy-to-use guides that point visitors (and many locals) to independent, authentic and beautiful local businesses. Now in its eighth year, Urban Walkabout publishes a well-known series of free, contemporary lifestyle guides to urban fashion, food and design destinations. Our series covers Australian cities such as Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Newcastle and Canberra. We have also recently launched our first international series in London. The company is passionate about encouraging consumers to shop local and support independent retail.

With a discerning eye for all things creative and innovative in our great cities, Urban Walkabout is for the inquisitive urban explorer. Our printed guides include an illustrated map with slick photography and descriptive venue reviews that direct our readers to a curated selection of

boutiques, spas and salons, local artisans, art galleries, markets, bookstores, cafés, bars and restaurants in each location.

Digital

The Urban Walkabout website, blog, mobile app and fortnightly e-newsletter is published in all cities to support and complement the great content we have in the printed guides. As well as a curated digital directory, our newsletter and blog is a space for us to discuss and promote all the latest openings, events and interesting stories from our readers’ favourite cities. Urban Walkabaout’s suite of digital outlets aims to reach both a local and visiting audience, those looking to plan their weekend, or those just contemplating their next urban adventure. OUR GUIDES

Urban Walkabout’s pocket-sized urban guides are aimed primarily at travellers, but are also used extensively by locals who are seeking a curated selection of fashion, design and food destinations.

You can find the complete series of Urban Walkabout guides at most 3-5 star hotels (in display stands or behind the desk with concierge), as well as visitor centres and airport business lounges nationally. Each guide is also available at featured stores within the respective area. We also distribute our guides via letterbox drops to the surrounding suburbs of each particular guide as part of our commitment to encouraging residents to shop local.

"It's not unusual to see groups roaming with the guides as some kind of cultural yellow brick road"

- Cat Bourke, Becker Minty

Urban Walkabout works in close collaboration with the outstanding independent businesses we feature to bring you free publications, jam-packed with great finds. Please remember to mention Urban Walkabout next time you visit one of these great spots to let them know that our joint efforts are worth it!

OUR PUBLICATIONS

Urban Walkabout publishes pocket-sized fold-out map-based guides to urban areas in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Newcastle and Canberra, as well as specialist publications including Sydney Style Seekers - a premium publication featuring this season's edit of Sydney's best experiences and destinations in food, fashion, design and culture.

Beyond our in-house publications and guides, Urban Walkabout works in partnership with various councils, tourism organisations, festivals and independent businesses to create beautiful, well-designed and editorially focused custom publications with the main aims of promoting urban areas

and encouraging an increase in visitation, therefore further activating local economies.

Some of our current clients include City of Sydney, Willoughby City Council, City of Ryde, Tropfest, Haymarket Chamber of Commerce, Sydney Fashion Festival, City of Perth, City of Vincent, City of Subiaco, Experience Perth, Perth International Arts Festival, among many more.

Urban Walkabout is always open to new ideas and partnerships which would support independent businesses, local communities and visitation to urban areas.
